Birchbox Unboxed

For anyone who has their ear to the ground in the beauty world , you’d no doubt be aware of Birchbox. Originally founded in 2010, the business has taken off in the past couple of years, most likely thanks to their Facebook sponsored ads – they’ve been on my timeline for years!

So what’s the hype?

Every month, subscribers get personalised beauty samples delivered right to their door. The idea is you find something that you like in the boxes and can buy the full-sized version from their online shop or the store in London.

When I found out that their April box was a collaboration with Cath Kidston, I had to get my hands on one. Here she is:

First impressions? It was a lot smaller than I expected. I used to have a subscription to Graze, whose box was a lot bigger. But, size doesn’t matter, right? Sometimes, the best things come in small packages and this is definitely the case for Birchbox.

So what did I get this month?

    1. Fill+Tame Brow Gel from Beautaniq Beauty
This delight is a tinted brow gel, in a brunette shade. I assume it comes in other colours, as this particular shade is probably a little bit dark for me. I am quite new to the world of tinted brow gel, but this little gem is a great product to get me started. It’s even vegan friendly so I can apply it guilt-free!

    2. Baked Highlighter from Model Co.
Now I am also a newbie to highlight and contouring so this was also a very new realm of beauty product for me. As soon as I opened it, I was blown away by how pretty it was! In the shade Frosè, it’s a champagne colour interlaced with some gorgeous pink and and golden-yellow tones. I put a tiny bit on my with my makeup yesterday. It wasn’t massively pigmented – whether that’s down to the product or my very hesitant and light hand, I’m not entirely sure – but I was chuffed with the shimmer it produced. I’m sure if I practiced my highlighting skills, I would fall in love with this one even more!

    3. Hand Cream from Cath Kidston
You cannot beat a good hand cream and this one is delightful. It has a soft vanilla scent and is easily absorbed – there’s no case of slimy hands afterwards! Being a sample size, it is also perfect to just throw in a clutch bag on a night out or special occasion.

    4. Protect and Volume Spray from Beauty Protection
Since chopping half of my hair off, I only have a limited amount of styles I can pull off. This product is a life saver. Simply spray in some of this before blowdrying and my hair is instantly “voluminised” and I don’t have to do much else with it. This is a god send for lazy people like me! And it protects your hair from harsh heat – what more could you ask for? It’s also vegan friendly!

    5. Brush Cleaner from Birchbox
Is this the universe telling me that I need to clean my makeup brushes more? Yes, it definitely is. Sadly, I haven’t actually got round to cleaning my brushes yet this week. *GROSS* But I have had my eyes on products similar to this for a while and from what I’ve heard, they are fantastic. I’ll probably pop a mini review on insta so keep your eyes peeled!

From what I have seen so far, I am super stoked to get the May box! You can check out these products and tonnes of others on their website:
